Protection
Protecting brake discs against corrosion
To protect brake discs against corrosion, ABS applies a coating to 99% of its brake discs. Compared to the traditional method of protection (oil), coating is 20 times more durable. An additional advantage is that discs with coating are suitable for mounting without cleaning them first.
This silver-gray geomet coating (based on aluminum and zinc) is applied in a spray booth and then dried in an oven. With oil protection, the layer must be removed before installation. This leaves the brake disc unprotected which results in rust.
